Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to identify and compare the preferred English listening comprehension strategies of Matthayomsuksa 5 students in Buriram Province, classified by English proficiency. The samples were composed of 40 Matthayomsuksa 5 students of Nangrongpitthayakhom School,Buriram Province who took a Supplementary English course (E30209) in the first semester of academic year 2015. They were selected by simple random sampling using the classroom as the sampling units. The researcher instruments were the listening comprehension test and questionnaire. The statistics used to analyze the collected data were percentage, mean, standard deviation and independent samples t-test. The findings were as follows : 1. The result indicated that among the three strategies, cognitive strategy was the highest average frequency, followed by metacognitive strategy and social strategy, respectively. 2. The result indicated that there were statistically significant differences in three strate gies perceived by proficient and less proficient students.
