Abstract
Rice is an export product of Thailand in agricultural sector which is
acceptable in the international market. Every government’s policies are all about
supporting rice farming, but policy on fertilizer for agriculture is not as concrete as it
should be because of the cost factor of expensive fertilizers and the effects on
chemical accumulation in soil and agricultural products. The government has adopted
a policy of promoting sustainability by focusing on organic agriculture to provide an
alternative way to use fertilizers that do not destroy soil and do not contain residues
in agricultural products. The government has developed a way to improve organic
fertilizer for farmers, preparing to accommodate changes on the plots affecting the
agricultural sectors in the future by enforcing three phases of rice farming: urgent
period, continuous period, and sustainable period. The target farmers, as the center of
management and work at all levels, should have clear responsibilities, emphasize
driving policy to action, and accelerate the promotion of the production of four types
of organic fertilizers i.e. compost, fresh manure, rice plowing and rice crop, and biofermented
water.
