ABSTRACT
The purposes of this study were 1) to study the effects of reading through
sentence analysis of English Program students and 2) to compare the students’ reading
achievement before and after the experiment. The samples of this study were 28 English
Program students of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who were studying

Reading and Text Interpretation Course and were recruited by Simple Random
Sampling. The design of this study was One-Group Pretest Posttest Design. The research instruments were 11 reading passages, 11 lesson plans, and 40 items of pretest and posttest with 5 multiple choices. The statistics used to analyze the collected data were Mean ( X ̅), Standard Deviation (S.D.), and the hypothesis was tested by t-test Dependent Samples. The study revealed that sentence analyzing helped the students improve their reading achievement, that is, their posttest scores were higher than the pretest scores with the statistical significant difference at .01 level.
