This research aimed to study the guideline for commercial promotion of creation of Bai Sri with indigenous knowledge in the educational institutions in Bangkok and vicinity. The research was conducted during June 2012 to April 2014.The sample was 50 persons, the data derived from which were analyzed by qualitative method, and the results were presented by descriptive analysis. The results showed that the origin of the Bai Sri in written form came from Hinduism. In Khmer there was only inscription that depicted the story of Bai Sri, but no documentation or evidence that indicated the source or origin
from Cambodia. It is believed that the Bai Sri had been used by Thai in everyday life from birth to death. In Thailand, there was no evidence to finalize the time when it originated. It was assumed that it originated in the Sukhothai period by creation of the royal lady by name Sri Chulalak from the hint, “work in Leaf-Wrapped Bite-size Appetizer and Betel Nuts”. Bai Sri Work was likely to begin in those days, because there was evidence to show that people invented floating basket from banana leaves. It was assumed that Bai Sri Inventing for use in worship was modeled after Sumeru Mount which was the residence
of Lord Shiva. Decorating Bai Sri with flowers of auspicious names indicated the auspiciousness and used as symbolic sign for deity who presided
over the ritual. Brahmin was authorized to
perform ceremonies by religious beliefs.
In terms of teaching and learning
in educational institutions, the basic career
was a part of the course in the Department
of Home Economics, which was opened for
training in embroidery, cooking, flower work
and banana leaf work. Bai Sri making was a
part of flower and banana leaf work, which
was taught once for about four hours in one
semester only. In primary and secondary
schools, students were given 45 minutes to
learn both theory and practice. This causes
problems to teachers as to what extent they
had to teach students within the limited period,
and how to make students understand both
theory and practice.
