Abstract
STELLA is one of the computer software designed to help natural resource
managers, and others make predictions about environmental systems. This research studied
the fundamental concepts of STELLA. Then, applied water quality system by STELLA.
Furthermore, predicted the DO and BOD change over time. The process of model used a
two-step approach. First, establish the initial values for DO and BOD immediately after the
river water and effluent are mixed. Second, predict the expected downstream DO and BOD
levels. Four components of DO and BOD system were applied by STELLA, (1) DO and
BOD storage (2) DO inflow (3) BOD inflow and (4) DO and BOD outflows by STELLA
software. The result showed that model can predict DO and BOD levels in downstream of
the discharge point (DO recovering). In addition, the DO and BOD level were affected by
the reoxygenation coefficient (k1), reoxygenation coefficient (k2) and DO saturation (DOsat)
respectively. Hence, this model can be used to investigate the relationship between BOD
and DO concentrations in a river. Users can adjust the screen of STELLA software and
observe how BOD and DO are affected as various parameters are changed. |
